I figure it’s a good a time as any to signal boost this, since a LOT of people don’t know it exists. They post update warnings when there are flashes or fast or flashing gifs and then even stills! i’m starting to think everyone else in this fandom has a different definition of selfish jerk than i do
i’d describe jake as “self-centered”, it’s more a subconscious thing, he’s more like the little kid who always grabs the ball first than the one who refuses to let anyone else play with it

he’s thoughtless and inconsiderate and self-centered because he’s really fucking dense and socially inept and trusts what his friends tell him way more than he trusts his own intuition and logic. he doesn’t think jane likes him because she said she didn’t. he doesn’t think jane is getting tired of him and his romantic problems because if she was then she would say something, right? he doesn’t understand how shy she can be, which is part of this larger thing where he tends to gloss over the flaws or weaknesses of people he likes. but yeah you have to spell shit out for him. and i get that sometimes it’s hard to tell someone “hey you’re hurting my feelings”, and i understand jane’s frustration and anger, but man idek how to word this i’m just having a really hard time vilifying someone with jake’s natural personality who grew up the way he did for being incredibly socially ignorant.
